NVIDIA Shield Gets an Update; Fixes Color Issues with Display





NVIDIA just rolled out a quick hotfix update for their Shield Tablet. Apparently there was a color reproduction issue with the display that was introduced by last week's 2.2 update. This hotfix is 2.2.1.



Here's the official changelog from NVIDIA:


  • Display color-space correction

  • Improvements to Netflix experience




Hmmm... color reproduction issue? Is that anything like that silly gold & white/blue & black dress optical illusion which is running rampant across the web?

Net Neutrality Lives! FCC will Classify the Internet Under Utility-Style Rules





We knew it would be coming soon. The FCC had their final meeting regarding the Net Neutrality debate. As the FCC Director Tom Wheeler shared in his proposal, the FCC will now classify the Internet under the Title II classification. This basically categorizes the Internet like a utility and allows the FCC to keep ISPs from blocking or slowing down traffic on wired and wireless networks. It also bans ISPs from charging content providers differently for any type of paid priority "fast lanes," even in the case of network congestion.



This classification will be applied to both wired and wireless broadband networks to prevent ISPs from favoring bits of data over each other. Here's a quote with a few more details regarding the resulting furor over the official announcement,

But the FCC's move to apply Title II to broadband has been viewed by cable operators, wireless providers and phone companies as a "nuclear option," with potentially devastating fallout from unintended consequences.



These companies argue that applying outdated regulation to the broadband industry will stifle innovation by hurting investment opportunities in networks. It could also allow the government to impose new taxes and tariffs, which would increase consumer bills. And they say it could even allow the government to force network operators to share their infrastructure with competitors.



Wheeler has said these fears are overblown. The agency is ignoring aspects of the Title II regulation that would apply most of the onerous requirements.



He said critics have painted his proposal as "a secret plan to regulate the Internet."



His response to that? "Nonsense. This is no more a plan to regulate the Internet than the First Amendment is a plan to regulate free speech. They both stand for the same concept: openness." ~ CNET


These new rules will be published in the Federal Register within the next few weeks.

LG Watch Urbane LTE Version Announced; Uses WebOS Instead of Android





Here is some shocking news this morning. It turns out the rumors about the LG Watch Urbane LTE version were true. The device will not be using Android Wear, but will instead be using a variant of WebOS. To be clear, the non-LTE version of the LG Watch Urbane still uses Android Wear. The WebOS will only be used on the LTE version for now. Also, LG is calling it their "LG Wearable Platform," even though it is basically built from WebOS.



Of course, the handy thing about WebOS on an LTE watch is that it shouldn't even need to be paired with an Android phone. It will even be able to make and receive calls and texts on its own, and includes push-to-talk support.



This LG phone/watch will also have beefy specs compared to its competition. Here's a breakdown:


  • 1.3 plastic-organic-light-emitting diode circular display, which has an always-on "ambient mode."

  • 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor

  • 4 GB of Storage

  • 700 mAh battery (very nice for a smartwatch)

  • LTE Radio

  • NFC-enabled for mobile wallet use




On top of these internal specs, the LG Watch Urbane LTE will have three physical buttons on the right side of the smartphone. The top most button will access your settings. The center button is designed to switch between the watch and mobile apps. The lower button is basically a back function, and you can hold the back button down "to send out a safety beacon to a preset emergency contact."



There is one caveat to this awesome "James Bond" style superwatch... it only comes in the silver color for now, whereas the non-LTE version comes in bronze/gold or silver.



It's interesting to see what LG is doing with their acquisition of the Palm WebOS from HP back in 2013. It looks like they are following Samsung's lead with Tizen. I suspect that WebOS will get a bit more traction than Tizen (at least with the tech-head/nerd crowd).

Using Samsung My Files Lost Music Files in SD Card

Hi





I am new to the forums. I bought a Samsung Note 3 none rooted and put music files on the internal memory. I used the samsung “My Folder” to move to sd card. I first created a folder in the sd card called Music and then moved files. I was very quick, for a reason.





When i opened the music folder tons of files where missing and then the files were gone from internal storage. I restarted the Note 3 but no change and the memory has not changed on the internal so it is still being held somewhere, but the external shows a difference of the few mb of files moved in.





The sd card is SanDisc Extreme Plus 64GB. The stock music player, Music Folder Player and Meridian Player do not find any music files at all on internal or external.





I also cleared data and cache of all three music apps and restarted cell but no difference. I unmounted the sd card and took it out put it back in restarted the phone. Nothing except now the “My Files” does not see any files or the “Music” folder in the sd card only DCIM, Andoid, and Lost.Dir





I installed root explorer and it finds the folders but no music in them and i also tried deleting .nomusic file in the android data folder but failed would not delete.





ES File explorer also sees the music folder in the emulated sd but all are empty.





Help please!





Copying files again would be a very very long process.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet Leaked Ahead of MWC; 2K Display and More





We haven't had any tablet news in quite some time, but that famine has broken. The Sony Xperia Z4 Android tablet had an image and a few details leaked ahead of its reveal at Mobile World Congress next month. The above image shows an ultra-thin tablet, which is not surprising coming from Sony.






The leaked intel also offered up a few vague details, including a 10-inch 2K display, “the latest ultra fast processor,” and “industry leading battery performance.” This leak may hint at the launch date as well, because it shows a March 3rd, which coincides with Sony's upcoming press event.

LG Releases Impressive Teaser Video of New LG Watch Urabane





After checking out this trailer video for the LG Watch Urbane, it looks like both the Moto 360 and the Apple Watch will have some serious competition in the wearables sector. LG has really stepped it up a notch, and all three companies are leaving Samsung in the dust as far as the aesthetic appeal of a smartwatch is concerned.



In the past, LG has made some sexy looking smartphones (like the G2, G3 and Nexus 5), and now it seems they made their design team work overtime on the Urbane smartwatch. The best part of the video above is that it briefly shows off what the watch will look like with several different bands... impressive!

Android Wear with an iPhone Hack? Yup... Video Shows Off iPhone Notifications on Moto





When I found this next story, it reminded me of the line that Bill Murray's character, Dr. Peter Venkman, said in the original Ghostbusters, "Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!" It seems that a crafty and crazy developer was able to hack his iPhone so that it actually sends notifications to his Moto 360 Android Wear device! Supposedly, the hack doesn't even require your iPhone to be jailbroken.



While this incredible feat doesn't quite hit the levels of "mass hysteria," it comes pretty close! The developer didn't get any other functionality to work yet, but the notifications is probably the most important one anyway.



Now... if Apple had created this hack themselves, then we might have to call out the Ghostbusters... :eek:

Samsung just shared their third "The Next Galaxy" teaser video over Twitter for the Galaxy S6. Apparently their marketing concept was either a trilogy or a mini-series (depending on if there will be more before the unveiling). For reference, here are the other two stories we shared before:

I'm trying to implement voip calling for Android (KitKat / version 4.4) using .net and the sip protocol and I need an open-source C# development library to accomplish my project.





So far, I used this android voip sip example, but it seems my trial version will expire soon. Yes, it is... bad news.





By the way, while digging on the Internet, I'm thinking about using closs-platform tools. I'm especially interested in Xamarin that allows development with c#.





Do you have any knowledge about using cross-platform tools for Android-based voip development? Can you recommend me a Xamarin-compliant open-source c# voip library?

Moto 360 Now Receiving Android 5.0.2 Update





Without a doubt the most popular and most talked about of all the Android Wear devices is the Moto 360. The Android smartwatch has impressive styling and works well. One could argue that it's simply the best Android Wear smartwatch available, and if that is true to you, then the best just got a bit better.



Motorola just starting pushing out the Android 5.0.2 version of Lollipop to the device. It doesn't change much, but here's the changelog with the details,

Where Did My Voice Recorder Files Go After I Cut and Pasted and Hit Undo?

I wanted to clear up some space on my Samsung Galaxy S5, so I connected it to my Windows 8 laptop with a USB cord. I opened up my folder from my phone and I "cut" 10-15 files I created with the "Audio Recorder" app on my phone, and I "pasted" them into a folder on my computer. I did not like where I put them, so I hit control-z to "undo". They disappeared. I cannot find them on my phone or my computer anywhere. I even hit control-y to "redo" right away, but the files were gone and the "paste" option was grayed out. Please help me find my files!!! They were really important audio recordings of classes I needed. Any recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

The Now Network is expanding their LTE presence across the nation on February 19th. Sprint just reported today that they will be opening over twenty new markets to their LTE service on that date. Here's the list:

the best new features in Android Lollipop what makes attractive

Google’s approach for rolling out the latest version of Android, Lollipop, is a little different. There are the usual things we see every year — a new Nexus phone and a new Nexus tablet — but instead of a big event, the company is posting details in blog posts and on the main Android site. So if you’re tracking the rollout closely, you probably have a sense of what’s new and what’s cool in the OS. If you’re not, though, getting a sense of what Lollipop is actually like and what it actually does isn’t easy.



Luckily, we got a chance to sit down with some Google execs last week to get a walkthrough of the coolest features. We won’t know everything until we actually have a chance to use the final version, but there are some clever additions we saw last week. Here are some of our favorites.



Tap and Go: Android has never been particularly good at transferring your settings and apps from an old phone to a new one. It’s always been a crap shoot as to whether all your apps would actually be downloaded from the Play store, to say nothing of your home screen and wallpaper. That’s partially Google’s fault, but it’s also a difficult problem to solve because of the diversity of hardware and software in the Android ecosystem. "Tap and Go" is a small step towards resolving that. You can pair them with NFC and your old Android phone will then use Bluetooth to send over all the details of what your phone should have installed over to the new phone.



Ok Google: Several of the enhancements on Lollipop were inspired by Motorola. The first is the ability to say "Ok Google" even if your phone is in standby mode. Your phone will wake and then you can use voice to search, send texts, and more. It requires compatible hardware, though, and so far we only know for sure that the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 support it.



Double tap to wake: Speaking of waking up your Android device, you can just double tap the screen of the Nexus 9 tablet to wake it up. Like the advanced "Ok Google" command, it requires compatible hardware. We also hear it works on the Nexus 6.



The update is arriving over-the-air, meaning you should be able to check your phone's update page to download it (if you have not already been prompted by a notification). We still don't know how long it will take before Lollipop arrives on the standard Galaxy S4 models, but as it as already hit the Galaxy S5, the S4 update can't be far off.
