Android 5.0.1 Lollipop has finally appeared officially for the Galaxy S4. The firmware appeared in Russia first, a few days into February and arrived in India a week later. Like the Galaxy Note 3 update that preceded it, the firmware will work on all international Galaxy S4's. You can follow our install tutorial to get Android 5.0.1 Lollipop on the Galaxy S4 or you can wait for the over-the-air update, which will be coming soon to everyone else. India has now started getting the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for the Galaxy S4 too. The rest of Europe is still waiting for the rollout to begin, although it is a simple enough procedure to manually update your S4 to the latest international version of Android. US carriers will take a little while longer to catch up.
As expected, the official S4 Lollipop rollout began in early February, following on from plenty of leaked test firmware, the Finnish Samsung site listing the S4 as following the Note 3 in the update list and a Chinese firmware version doing the rounds a while back. SamMobile had already got its hands on an early test version of Android Lollipop on the Galaxy S4, complete with refreshed TouchWiz UI, which you can check it out in the video below. The final version is pretty much identical to what you see here. Android 5.0 Lollipop has already arrived to the Google Play edition of the Galaxy S4. Though we have previously seen the HTC One (M7), HTC One (M8) and Moto G (2013) Google Play editions receive Lollipop, the Galaxy S4 will not be following suit and jumping straight to Android 5.0.1.
The update is arriving over-the-air, meaning you should be able to check your phone's update page to download it (if you have not already been prompted by a notification). We still don't know how long it will take before Lollipop arrives on the standard Galaxy S4 models, but as it as already hit the Galaxy S5, the S4 update can't be far off.
